In early January Amaris and Fox were tired of being cold in Chicago with limited options for outdoor fun. Colorado and the mountains solve that problem so a weekend getaway was booked on a whim. Fox snowboarded at Breckenridge and Vale the year before and it had been a few years since Amaris had been on the slopes. The trip began with a Thursday afternoon flight to Denver International Airport followed by a sunset walk around the Rocky Mountain Lake Park with a long time friend of Fox'. Per his recommendation we went to the incredible Ginger Pig for a takeout dinner and would highly recommend this for anyone in the area. With dinner and Scooby Snacks in hand we made our way to the DoubleTree Breckenridge, which is conveniently located close to the QuickSilver lift.

The next three days would be spent cruising down the slopes and enjoying the prime mountain air. Overall the mountain was slow and we were able to get a lot of runs in without long lift lines. The days were mainly spent on groomers as there was not much powder apart from Saturday morning. Similar to the month before in Death Valley, when we saw the fighter jets overhead, there was a low flyby of a few C-17s Saturday morning that appeared to be touching the mountains as they cruised through. This was a pretty incredible sight and not one we expect to see any time again soon. Following the two full days on the mountain we had dinner Saturday night at the eclectic Twist Restaurant where the service was friendly, food was refreshing, and the drinks were well crafted. The rest of the night was spent with a group of friends who were also in town shredding that weekend.

Sunday was the third day riding, we were both pretty sore, and decided to delay the slopes a little bit by starting with breakfast at a BoLD restaurant in town. Breakfast was relaxing with classic dishes, a mimosa, and spicy bloody mary. More cruises down fun blues completed our time on the mountain. While the trip was short, the adrenaline filled days floating down snow filled our hearts with joy and gave us the inspiration for another ski trip a few weeks later to Granite Peak, WI with the whole gang!
