So begins our honeymoon in Italy!!!
This was a "surprise" honeymoon as Kristin had no idea where our final destination was until we were in the airport at London Heathrow. We managed to make it through security at O'Hare and were at the gate when she found out the first leg of the trip brought us to London Heathrow.
Following a missed connection, we arrived in Naples at 6:30pm and two and a half hours later we made it to the hotel in Sorrento. A cab brought us to Piazza Garibaldi and the train we took, which was more of a city metro train, was a hour and fifteen minute slug to Sorrento. Looking back, ponying up for a cab or group van would have been easier, especially with the delay we faced.
We got the bags down, decided to make the most of the night, and went out for what was one of our favorite dinners of the entire honeymoon. Cucu Miscele & Cucina is a a stylish restaurant with unique decor and paintings few steps from the main square of Piazza Tasso. The dinner was a great introduction to the Italian food experience with every course being absolutely delicious paired with impeccable service.
The next morning we were up and moving at 6:30am and walking around before the city was fully awake. Knowing we would be leaving for Positano that afternoon, we made the most of our morning walking around town, seeing the sites, and getting our first taste of "stairs" on the Amalfi Coast.
Half Day Sights:
Porto di Sorrento
Launch point for several boat tours, Amalfi Coast ferries, and trips to Capri
Relax on the benches, enjoy the sea, and people watch
Sedil Dominova sedile di Sorrento
Ancient building constructed between 1319 and 1344 a few steps from the plaza
Torre dell'Orologio
Apparently there are rooms available in the building?
Cappuccino, relaxation, and people watching on the square
Returned for lunch sandwiches after grabbing morning coffees from there
Great place to enjoy the lunch from Bar Rita
The plan when we left was to take a bus from Sorrento to Positano; however, when we got to the station and saw the line we decided to make up for the night before and paid the hundred euros for a taxi to Positano. MUCH NICER than the crowded bus and standing in line in the sun!
